The Black Bull pub in the Market Place was bought by Mood Developments in October 2017. Mood Developments is a Leeds based company specialising in heritage pubs and have two successful developments in Kirkgate, Leeds and another major building in the pipeline in Dewsbury.
Mood Developments submitted the Black Bull planning application in February 2018. Part of the development cost is being supported by a grant from the Townscape Heritage Initiative and following some delays the grant was approved by Kirklees cabinet in August 2018 allowing the project to move forward.
Work was originally expected to start in September with the pub opening again for business around Christmas 2018. However, there have been all the usual hiccups in the planning and approval process.
But now, with all the hurdles cleared, we're expecting to see the scaffolding going up and work starting on Monday 26 November.
